Drinking Liberally wants you to run for political office

Drinking Liberally, the organization that helps people interested in politics meet up discuss their ideas at bars across America, is encouraging people to run for political office.
Now, we're inviting you to Run Liberally -- we're finding 25 of our Living Liberally
members from across the nation to run as progressive candidates for local
office. Become part of the movement: http://candidateproject.org/recruitment/

They've had people who were involved in Drinking Liberally in the past win elections before, but this is their first step into urging people to run.
The "2,012 for 2012" campaign is recruiting, training and networking 2,012 candidates for local office -- from dog-catcher to state senator.  Along with a range of partners --
Democracy for America, CREDO, Rebuild The Dream, Color of Change and more --
Living Liberally wants to contribute 25 candidates to this goal because we believe our members are liberal leaders.
The website says they've already collected one person to run for office. While they won't official endorse any candidates, they will encourage them to run.

Jump below for Drinking Liberally's full plea.

Are you ready to Lead Liberally?

Drinking Liberally, in small towns and big cities all across America, gives
liberals a home.  We've been doing it for 8 years: creating friendships around
politics, sharing ideas while sharing a beer.  In 250 chapters, you are part of
this movement -- and together you drink liberally, laugh liberally and live
liberally.

We don't write messages to our whole network very often, but we think this is
important: the chance to be part of a national movement encouraging
progressives to run for office in their communities.  The "2,012 for 2012"
campaign is recruiting, training and networking 2,012 candidates for local
office -- from dog-catcher to state senator.  Along with a range of partners --
Democracy for America, CREDO, Rebuild The Dream, Color of Change and more --
Living Liberally wants to contribute 25 candidates to this goal because we
believe our members are liberal leaders.

You all come to Drinking Liberally because you care about your community. As
often as not, you are leaders in your neighborhoods: committed, passionate,
opinionated.  We all want better candidates.  Maybe you know that candidate.
Maybe you are that candidate.

Will you be part of "2,012 for 2012" to ensure progressives are running for
office across the country?

We know our network has such leaders in it.  In Fayetteville, Arkansas, Greg
Leding went from running a Drinking Liberally chapter to walking into the State
House as a legislator.  In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jason Haas had been gathering
liberals in a bar -- until he gathered supporters to elect him County
Commissioner.  In Providence, Rhode Island, Chris Blazejewski was served beers
at his local happy hour with his neighbors -- and now serves them as a State
Representative.  And Kathleen Thompson in Grapevine, Texas, gave conservatives
on City Council their toughest fight in years -- and while she didn't come in
first across the finish line, we believe she'll be back.

We are proud of these members of the Liberally family...and all our friends who
improve their communities, care for their neighbors and promote progressive
values day in and day out.

We're proud of the chapters that meet in deep red areas where "liberal" is a
dirty word.  We're proud of the liberal drinkers who host candidates and
authors, volunteer at local shelters, run holiday drives and support political
films.  We're proud of all our members who decided that it's worth
gathering to share values while sharing an evening together.

We'd rather live in a world in which our friends from the bar are in charge --
where our liberal buddies are our elected leaders.

So we encourage you to pledge to Lead Liberally and become part of "2,012 for
2012."

Note: Living Liberally and its chapters do not endorse candidates; however, we
do believe in a representative democracy and there is nothing partisan about
encouraging thoughtful citizens to run for office.
